Award winning Blues Artist Zac Harmon
Award winning Mississippi native, Zac Harmon, is known for his triple threat talent as a songwriter, singer, and guitarist with a unique Blues style. His true American Blues style was cultivated through his melodious upbringing where his piano playing mother and harmonica playing father often entertained with legends such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Ike and Tina Turner. His neighborhood was full of musical influence and the culture of music around him was carried on into his professional career.
By sixteen, Harmon had started playing music with artist visiting Jackson, Mississippi on tour and by 21 he took his talents to Los Angeles to gain more exposure in the music industry. His induction to the infamous Hollywood music industry was a successful endeavor, landing him work as a producer and songwriter for major films & television. Harmon’s resume became so notable that he got the opportunity to write for the late and great Michael Jackson! Other stars to follow included K-Ci & Jo Jo, The Whispers, The O’Jay’s and countless others throughout his career. In 1994, Harmon received a Grammy nomination for producing songs for reggae artist Black Uhuru’s Mystical Truth.
By 2003, Harmon was ready to use his knowledge & experience and pair it with the musical nostalgia of his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. Here, he created the showcase LIVE AT BABE & RICKY’S INN. This energizing reflection of blues, solidified Harmon’s place in Blue’s history. Riding the wave of music, Harmon took his band, Mid-South Blues Revue on to dominate the International Blues Foundation in Memphis’ International Blues Challenge, where they were awarded “Best Unsigned Band”.
Zac Harmon spent 2008 & 2009 overseas performing for troops in Iraq and Kuwait. And was honored to perform as the second blues act at the Great Pyramid, only preceded by the Great Louis Armstrong. Upon returning to the U.S. he released his third album, From the Root, that was recognized for its memorable and intentional sound pouring out of each track. Harmon continued to acquire accolade and recognition for his talents as the years passed and in 2012 dove into the mix of styles ranging from R&B, Funk, Gospel, and Reggae to create is forth album, Music is Medicine.
To date, Harmon has released two more albums that pull from the topics that society rivals with today. Right Man Right Now (2016) and Mississippi BarBQ(2018) both set the stage for an updated sound and experience for the listener.
